Why Donate?

The Waldwick Volunteer Ambulance Corps (“WALVAC”) depends exclusively on donations to be able to operate. Our entire annual budget is covered by donations from residents and business locations within the Borough of Waldwick. Since our inception in 1951, WALVAC has never billed our patients for emergency services. Despite the current trends in emergency services, it is our intention to continue providing emergency services free of charge, provided by our 100% volunteer organization.

During the COVID-19 Pandemic, our volunteers responded to the Borough’s 911 calls despite the risk of exposure. While neighboring EMS agencies chose to “stand down,” we continued treating and transporting critically ill patients, including those who had contracted COVID-19.

Many towns have been forced to hire paid staff or contract paid EMS agencies due to lack of volunteer staffing, but WALVAC remains a strong, unified organization. Our team of dedicated volunteers continue the mission of our founding members of providing lifesaving pre-hospital medical care to the residents, business owners, and visitors to the Borough of Waldwick free of charge. While the last two years have been perhaps the most challenging in our 70- year history, we continue to provide emergency medical services to you and your neighbors, free of charge.

The average cost of pre-hospital medical care by a paid ambulance in our area is between $900.00 and $1700.00.

WALVAC is able to provide the same level of Basic Life Support care with NO COST to our patients, thus saving thousands of dollars which would otherwise be billed to our Waldwick residents in need of urgent, emergency care. Generous contributions from our community go a long way toward sustaining our ability to provide life–saving emergency medical care without the added burden of charging for our services.

Your generosity also enables us to purchase needed medical equipment and supplies, provide ongoing volunteer training, and to replace aging ambulances when necessary.
