Volunteering with WALVAC

The Waldwick Ambulance Corps has always been and will always be a 100% volunteer organization.  Our members are not paid for their services, they volunteer because they care.  Our organization does not charge our patients anything for treatment and transport offered during an emergency.  We pride ourselves on being able to provide this service and we truly love what we do.

We volunteer because your life may depend on it and because we care about the residents of Waldwick and our surrounding communities! 

What is involved in joining?

• No experience is necessary. We offer all members that choose to become EMT’s the Initial EMT Trainige course (approximately 250 hours) free of charge, a $1,400 value!!  To learn more, fill out an application via the link below, and one of our officers will contact you.
• You can be as young as 16!  We have a great youth squad program. This is a great opportunity for those going into the medical field to see if medicine is a good fit.
• As a younger member, although volunteering looks great on your resume and on your college application, we hope that you will volunteer out of altruism.  Your marketability as a  babysitter, lifeguard, or camp counselor will place you at the top of the list when you have CPR and EMT training!

What is expected after you join?

• You will be provided all of the required initial training which is required to ride on our ambulance. Training is free and done at our building and online.
• As an Observer, you will ride at least one shift per week which consists of a 4 hour or 10 hour shift, depending on your age.
• As you gain experience as an observer, you will be encouraged to take the next step toward EMT certification. Like your inital training, EMT training is free of charge and conducted locally, typically in Bergen or Passaic County.
